The HPSI consists of 36 items, with 5 point Likert scale response options and was developed to measure the three major dimensions of psychopathology underlying the MMPI and Jackson's Basic Personality Inventory.
Scores are reported for these three dimensions and their respective sub-dimensions:
- Thinking Disorder
- Interpersonal Problems
- Impulse Expression
- Social Introversion
- Persecuting Ideas
The HPSI has good reliability. Validity studies indicate classification accuracy of 77% and the test shows good convergent validity with the related scales on the MMPI-2 and Jackson's BPI. Profile Validity (eg. random responding, fake good, etc) is established in a manner similar to the MMPI-2.
- Quick administration.
- Maps onto MMPI-2 dimensions.
- Wide age range.
