Description
The SPAI assesses specific somatic symptoms, cognitions, and behaviours across a wide range of potentially fear-producing situations to measure social anxiety and fear. With a Year 6 reading level, the SPAI assesses social anxiety across diverse settings.
The SPAI is ideal for use as a screening device in schools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, residential treatment facilities, prisons and other correctional employment settings. For example, the SPAI can help monitor treatment change and detect those who may suffer from maladaptive social anxiety.
In corporate settings, the SPAI helps distinguish those who may have difficulty in positions requiring high levels of social interaction (eg sales positions) and social performance (eg speeches).
The SPAI’s 45-items address two subscales: Social Phobia and Agoraphobia. The inclusion of an Agoraphobia scale helps make the difficult distinctions between diagnoses of Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia and Social Phobia. A score for each scale is produced, along with a Total score.
The SPAI is available in Quikscore format, which allows the client’s responses to transfer through to a hidden scoring page. Simple calculations are included to make scoring easy. The scoring page also lists basic screening guidelines to help you determine which phobias are most likely, according to the client’s scores.
