Working with speech sound difficulties

Find out why thousands of schools place their trust in this award winning speech screening and intervention tool. Book a free no obligation trial to explore this package in your own school.

“95% of our children have really moved forward. This means that for some they will not need to be referred to the Speech and Language services which is huge, and others received the little nudge they needed to give them confidence and ability to interact in class.”

Identification

The Speech Link online speech screen is fun, quick and easy for support staff to administer.

It identifies whether a child’s speech matches the expectations for their age. If a delay is present the package will recommend which of our speech programmes are the most beneficial. Where speech difficulties are severe or may indicate a disorder, it will clearly alert you to discuss the child with your local speech and language therapy service.

Following assessment use our intelligibility ratings to involve children and families in setting targets for progress.

Intervention

Speech Link includes 26 planned and resourced speech intervention programmes. They cover all common developmental speech errors and are accompanied by video walk-throughs, presented by our speech and language therapists, to clearly guide school staff step by step.

Each programme comes with clear instructions on how to help children produce and listen for sounds in isolation, within words and in sentences. They can be delivered one-to-one or in some cases to a pair or small group.

Over 600 downloadable resources are available including pictures to accompany each sound. Speech work is most effective when backed up with home practice, therefore the package includes over 30 activities and information sheets for families.

Resources for Teachers

The ability to hear the difference between speech sounds is essential for both speech and literacy development.

To support early literacy skills Speech Link provides class teachers with interactive, online listening games designed to be used with whole classes. These graded games develop good listening, auditory analysis and sound discrimination skills. They are fun and engaging, and guide students through five levels from listening to single sounds, to identifying sounds at the beginning and end of words – an invaluable early phonics resource.

For those who need a little bit extra our phonological awareness intervention is included.  This planned and resourced group will develop students’ listening and discrimination skills to support literacy development.

The package also includes information for teachers outlining the impact speech difficulties have on literacy, learning and behaviour.

In-Package Training

If you are new to working with speech sounds it can seem specialist and technical.  We are on a mission to demystify this work by providing outstanding training and support.

The annual subscription includes our online training for staff. Delivered in a series of user guides, this innovative course allows staff to develop skills at their own pace. The first module covers how speech sounds are produced and the second covers how to work through a speech programme.

The other guides in the series walk staff through every aspect of using the package from set up to administering the assessment and running interventions, as well as interpreting reports and measuring progress.

Our in-house speech and language therapists also deliver regular webinar overviews covering different aspects of the package and offering your staff the chance to ask our experts questions.

Data & Measuring Progress

The Speech Link in-package progress measures enable you to track the impact our interventions have on your students’ speech skills. All programmes have clear guidelines for judging the success of each stage and criteria for when to move on.

Teachers complete our Speech Intelligibility Ratings before and after students’ receive our interventions. This provides a functional measure of the impact of intervention on a child’s intelligibility. Progress can be viewed at a glance via the student’s report, so you have all the information you need at your fingertips.
