Description

Dramatic evidence of students with significant psychopathology and violence proneness has made recent media headlines across the country.  This behaviour is often a tragic outcome of adolescent psychopathology.

The APS-SF is a multi-dimensional measure of psychopathology and personality characteristics derived from the Adolescent Psychopathology Scale (APS).  It consists of 115 items in 12 clinical scales and 2 validity scales.  The APS-SF Clinical scales include Conduct Disorder (CND), Major Depression (DEP), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTS), Eating Disturbance (EAT), Academic Problems (ADP), Self-Concept (SCP), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (OPD), Generalised Anxiety Abuse Disorder (GAD), Substance Abuse Disorder (SUB), Suicide (SUI), Anger/Violence Proneness (AVP), and Interpersonal Problems (IPP).  The APS-SF Validity scales include Defensiveness (DEF) and Consistency Response (CNR).

The APS-SF provides many benefits to both school and clinical psychologists who work with adolescents:

  • Addresses issues regarding school safety by assessing excessive anger and propensity for violence toward others.
  • Reliable, derived from the APS.
  • Requires only a 3rd-grade reading level.
  • Quick, takes only 15-20 minutes to administer.
  • Ideal for school-based group settings (ages 12-19 years).
  • Scoring Program produces a Clinical Score Report that includes Critical Item endorsements.

Scoring

The APS-SF can be scored using the APS-SF PC Software Scoring Program or via the PAR iConnect platform.  APS-SF item responses are entered into the APS-SF Scoring Program or directly into iConnect by the client, the user selects the appropriate normative comparison group.  In less than five minutes, the programs calculates the T score for each scale and generates the APS-SF Clinical Score Report.
